AERIAL FUTURES: Lake Victoria Challenge
2018 Lake Victoria Challenge Trial & Symposium Team: Jim Elson, Andrew Ghadimi, Grant Penfield Haugen, Andres Ramirez, Anastasia Sukhoroslova Role: Project Manager; Event + Media Production
Project Location: Mwanza, Tanzania
This project investigates using drones for humanitarian purposes and their ability in overcoming mobility infrastructure deficits in East Africa.
AERIAL FUTURES: Lake Victoria Challenge provokes discussion about drone infrastructure as new architectural interfaces between land and sky: much like every European town once had a train station, what if every African town had a droneport? Building on the 2016 Droneport Project, initiated by EPFL-Afrotech and designed by Foster + Partners, this project explores imaginary architectural approaches that enhance the shared economic value and scalability of droneports in remote, rural areas, including private-public partnerships and financing business models. Held in conjunction with the Lake Victoria Challenge Trial & Symposium, featuring over 280 participants from 23 countries, AERIAL FUTURES was responsible for organizing the Infrastructure Track.
